How A 52-Year-Old Indian Actor Became China's Favorite Movie Star
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/robcain.../#13f439014bec
...Aamir Khan’s character Rancho was particularly appealing to the Chinese for his eccentricity and his bold approach to challenging authority and living life according to his own rules. 3 Idiots became a cult hit, and is to this day China’s 12th favorite film of all time as measured by ratings on the film review site Douban.com. Only one Chinese film, Farewell My Concubine, ranks higher.
    ...
By now it was clear that Aamir Khan and his films were not just a passing fad in China. He had become an icon. And he was making films that spoke to Chinese audiences in a way that no Hollywood film, no foreign film, indeed almost no local Chinese film, could or would. A highly selective performer and producer, his instincts are impeccable.
    ...
And so it is with Khan's latest film, Dangal. Still in release in China's theaters, the family sports drama has completely destroyed all conventional notions of how an Indian film can perform in the international market. With $173 million in China box office collections in just over a month, it has now grossed more there than any other Indian film has ever made anywhere, including India. I've written before about why the picture has become such a hit in China, but suffice it to say here that its heartfelt exploration of father-daughter relationships, parental sacrifice and pursuing one's dreams against seemingly impossible odds have been critical to its giant embrace by Chinese audiences.

So now, it's safe to say that every movie lover in China knows Aamir Khan's name, and his face, and has likely seen at least two or three of his movies. Not only has the star opened up the international market for Indian filmmakers, his success has inspired a burst of development activity aimed at further serving audiences in China and beyond.

Where Khan goes from here is completely up to him. He has said himself that "When I'm selecting a film I'm not thinking 'what will the audience like?' because I can never predict what the audience can like. So when I pick a movie I always go with my heart." And it is bound to factor into his future decision making that Aamir Khan is very much in the hearts of China's moviegoers.

            Superstar of content
            http://www.thehansindia.com/posts/in...content/336061
...Intellectual cinema need not and in fact cannot be boring. It has a higher responsibility on its shoulders than say a David Dhawan movie, and I love David Dhawan movies to be clear here.

Aamir Khan Productions has shown it to the long ponytailed makers, who feel with their first camera shot that they are god’s gift to Indian cinema and end up making movies which are quarter less watchable than the painful government documentaries – that you can teach the audiences and they will love being taught. Provided you hold them and pull at their heart.

In that sense make no mistake that Aamir Khan Productions is one of the biggest hopes of modern intellectual cinema. I daresay had this studio produced it ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ probably it would have been a rocking box office hit the first time itself.

IF I LET MY STARDOM GET IN THE WAY, THEN I’LL HARM MY FILMS, ADMITS AAMIR KHAN
            http://www.peepingmoon.com/the-mark-...mir-khan-6220/
...Now in the countdown to Secret Superstar’s release, Aamir Khan is in a super charged mood. I could see the excitement on his face, dancing in his eyes.

“Films get me charged,” Aamir admitted, “I’m consumed by great scripts. And once I get working on them, everything around me fades into soft focus, including my family. I become less sensitive, my bandwidth gets limited, I can’t say I like being this way. But, yes, that’s the way I work. The effort to bring on screen what is in the script is a huge challenge. I like picking up an unusual script and making it mainstream cinema. Then I’m anxious to see how people react. That’s why I do only one film a year. I like to be more involved in the character. I could do more, of course, in my lifetime I could do 500 films. But when I’m doing a film all my energies are into it. At that point, I don’t enjoy taking on anything else. I enjoy the space I’m in. I’m not a factory or a huge production system. I’m… kya bolta hai… a handloom product. A one-machine-one-person-one-shirt kind of actor. I’m not a large-scale outfit producing a million shirts.”

Aamir Khan Wants His Autobiography To Be Published After Death
              http://www.mid-day.com/articles/mid-...death/18626192

I want to document each and every moment of my life, but I don't want the autobiography to release as long as I am alive. I will hand over the autobiography to my lawyer, before I go. I will be extremely honest and forthcoming in my autobiography, which is why I don't want to be around when it is published.
              ...
Death is a reality and I am extremely practical. One has to accept this harsh reality of life.
Sehr schön, dass er an seiner Autobiografie arbeitet/arbeiten will. Und die Vorgehensweise bezüglich der Veröffentlichung passt zu ihm.
